JEE Main 2017 InfoConducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the renowned JEE Main 2017 exam is a gateway for admission into various engineering colleges across the country. Those seeking admission in B.E or B.Tech courses will have to appear in the paper-1, while students aspiring seats in architecture courses viz B.Arch/ B.Planning need to appear in the paper-2.The Paper 1 can be attempted both offline and online mode, while Paper 2 can be only given through offline mode. The total number of seats in JEE Main 2017 is 30,000. Every year several applicants attempt this national level exam to get admission in 31 NITs, 18 IIITs and 18 GFTIs, participating institutions of JEE Main. Here is a detailed account on JEE Main 2017.

What is New in JEE Main 2017?

  • There shall be no weightage for the 12th class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE (Main).
  • For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE(Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.
  • All the Indian citizen candidates should possess AADHAAR card issued by UIDAI. At the time of filling application form of JEE (Main)–2017, the candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s data. In case, these particulars do not match, the candidates will not be able to fill the application form for JEE (Main)–2017. Therefore, the candidates are advised to ensure that their AADHAAR card has correct details of their name, date of birth & gender as per school records. If there is some mismatch in these details, the candidates should immediately get it corrected in AADHAAR data or school records, as the case may be.

JEE Main 2017 Eligibility

  • Applicants born on or after 1 October 1992.
    Note: Date of birth as recorded in the secondary school certificate (Class 10) will be considered only.
  • The prescribed age limit for the SC/ST/PwD applicants is 1 October 1987.
  • Applicants who have passed Class 12 exam or any other equivalent Board examination in 2015 or 2016; or those applicants, who are appearing in their Class 12th exam or any other equivalent Board examination in 2017, are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2017. Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2014 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2018 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)–2017. Candidates who appeared in class 12th/equivalent qualifying Examinations in 2014, did not pass in 2014, but passed in 2015 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2017.
  • Applicants can only make three attempts to appear in JEE Main.
  • There shall be no weightage for the 12th class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE (Main) examination.
  • Eligibility for admission: Central Seat Allocation Board will look after counselling and seat allotment to NITs, IIITs, IITs, CFTIs through JEE Main 2017 All India Rank. For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE(Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

JEE Main 2017 Application Form

Interested and eligible applicants can apply only through online mode or through official website of Joint Entrance Examination Main (jeemain.nic.in). The online application form will be available from December 1, 2016. The last date to fill the application form is January 2, 2017.

JEE Main 2017 Syllabus

Candidates must prepare for the JEE Main exam as per the given topics for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry. The syllabus is generally taken from class 11 and 12th syllabus of the school boards.

Pattern of Paper 1 Exam for BE/B Tech courses:

  • The paper-1 will be conducted online and offline. Applicants are allowed to choose only one exam mode.
  • JEE Main paper-1 will be objective type.
  • The question paper will be given in both languages: Hindi and English. However, applicants writing exam in Gujarat, Daman Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli can write exam in Gujarati as well. Applicants have to fill question paper language while filling up the application form.
  • Duration of exam will be three hours but for candidates having 40% or more disability, duration of exam will be 4 hours.
  • There will be negative marking of 1/4 marks for each incorrect answer.

Pattern of Question Paper 1:

JEE Main question paper for Paper 1 exam (B.E/B.Tech courses) consists 90 questions of total 360 marks:

  • Physics (30 questions of total 120 Marks)
  • Chemistry (30 questions of total 120 Marks)
  • Mathematics (30 questions of total 120 Marks)

Pattern of Paper 2 Exam for B Arch/ B Planning courses:

  • The paper-2 will be conducted only through OFFLINE mode.
  • Paper-2 will be objective type.
  • The question paper of will be given in both languages: Hindi and English. However, applicants from Gujarat, Daman Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli will be able to write exam in Gujarati as well. Applicants have to clearly mention preferred language while filling up the application form.
  • Duration of exam will be three hours but for candidates having 40% or more disability, the duration of exam will be four hours.
  • There will be negative marking of 1/4 marks for each incorrect answer.

Pattern of Paper 2

JEE Main question paper for Paper-2 (B.Arch/B.Planning) consists 82 questions of total 390 marks:

  • Physics (30 questions of total 120 Marks)
  • Aptitude Test (50 questions of total 200 Marks)
  • Drawing Test (2 questions of total 70 Marks)

JEE Main 2017 Admit Card

The admit card of JEE Main 2017 will be released in the 2nd week of March, 2017 (onwards). Joint Entrance Examination Main 2017 admit card will be available only through official website. Applicants have to download their admit cards from official website of Joint Entrance Examination Main. The admit cards have to be carried on the day of examination.

JEE Main 2017 Cut Off

The CBSE will announce the cut off for the Joint Entrance Examination Main 2017. The minimum marks will be fixed by the CBSE. Applicants are required to score equal or more than the cut off in order to qualify the exam.

Note that cut off marks will be different for each category.

JEE Main 2017 Result

The result of Joint Entrance Examination Main 2017 will be released in two parts. Part-1 will have marks obtained by applicant in the exam, while part-2 will disclose All India Rank (AIR) of the applicants. The seat will be allocated only on the basis of merit achieved by the applicant. How rank will be given in JEE Main 2017

The rank in JEE Main 2017 will be calculated on the basis of candidates’ performance in entrance exam.

Kindly note that weightage system of 60:40 ratio is no longer applicable.

JEE Main 2017 Counselling Procedure

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority, commonly known as JOSAA, will conduct the counselling for admissions in IITs, ISM Dhanbad, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes). Applicants can fill their choices/ preferences as per the specified schedule published at: http://josaa.nic.in
