Conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the renowned JEE Main 2017 exam is a gateway for admission into various engineering colleges across the country. Those seeking admission in B.E or B.Tech courses will have to appear in the paper-1, while students aspiring seats in architecture courses vizB. Arch/ B.Planning need to appear in the paper-2. The Paper 1 can be attempted both offline and online mode, while Paper 2 can be only given through offline mode. The total number of seats in JEE Main 2017 is 30,000.
The JEE Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) looks after the seat allocation in 31 NITs, 18 IIITs and other participating institutions of JEE Main.
CBSE will hold this prestigious exam (JEE Main) on April 2, while IIT Madras (Chennai) will organise the JEE Advanced 2017. The JEE Main exam will be conducted on April 2, 2017.
Info on Top 20 percentile of Class 12 examination results
The JoSAA has conveyed that school education boards, including CBSE and State boards, to send the top 20 percentile of Class 12 examination results before June 10 smooth admission process in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other engineering colleges.
What is New in JEE Main 2017?
- This year, an aspirant has to secure 75 per cent marks to qualify for seat allocation. According to JoSAA, since there is a significant variation in the percentage marks of toppers among boards, the category-wise top 20 percentile score of successful candidates of each board is used as an alternative for all candidates.
- There shall be no weightage for the 12th class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE (Main).
- For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE(Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.
- All the Indian citizen candidates should possess AADHAAR card issued by UIDAI. At the time of filling application form of JEE (Main)–2017, the candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s data. In case, these particulars do not match, the candidates will not be able to fill the application form for JEE (Main)–2017. Therefore, the candidates are advised to ensure that their AADHAAR card has correct details of their name, date of birth & gender as per school records. If there is some mismatch in these details, the candidates should immediately get it corrected in AADHAAR data or school records, as the case may be.
